The last (discovered) painting by Leonardo da Vinci, has arrived in New York City and if you live within walking distance, or are a bicycle, train, bus or car ride away, you can come to our galleries in Rockefeller Center and see it. Christie’s offers free public viewings prior to all of our scheduled auctions in every different collecting category. The best kept art secret in New York, in my opinion.
Salvator Mundi will be sold as a special lot in our sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art on the evening of November 15th. I’ve attached a video (and essay) from Christies.com, which goes into great detail about the discovery of the painting and the process of authenticating it as by the hand of da Vinci. I have watched this video over and over again, read the scholarly essays over and over again, and cannot help but wonder many things – is Christ holding a Crystal Orb…or a Crystal Ball? And…about the timing of the painting’s very public debut in a troublous world.
Below are public viewing times, as well as another link to the lot page on Christies.com, where you can read the lot essay and cataloguing details.
